Thinking of how you can lead?

If you agree it’s time for women’s perspectives to be included equally in the thousands of appointed and elected offices across South Carolina but aren’t sure where to begin, this course on leadership exploration is for you!

Running for office can feel like a daunting endeavor, especially with the obstacles women face. The road to serving in an appointed position can feel mysterious and challenging to navigate. Yet, serving is the best way to effect change, unite your community, and shape policy. So where should you start – elected or appointed office?

The Looking for Ways to Lead course features the most pertinent lessons from our appointed and elected office courses to give you the knowledge and resources to overcome obstacles and demystify processes. At the end of this course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of what running for office or applying for a board entails and be able to determine which is the best fit for you.

Why should women run for political office?

Inspiration for the Next Generation: When young girls see women taking the lead and actively participating in the political process, it sends a powerful message–that their voices and aspirations are valid and that they, too, can aspire to positions of power and influence.

Affect Change and Equality for Women: When women run for office, they bring unique perspectives, experiences, and priorities to the table. Women often take a collaborative approach to solving collective issues. More women in leadership lead to more women-friendly policies focusing on family, children, and healthcare.
