Municipal government is the public administration of a city or town. There are 271 municipalities in South Carolina with three forms of municipal government authorized: mayor-council; council; and council-manager.

Qualifications

Qualifications are provided for by each municipality by ordinance. For most offices, the candidate must be 18 years of age and a resident of the district they seek to represent. For specific requirements, check with your municipal or county election commission.
