Lead Like a Woman Circle

February 7, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

You’re invited to join the Lead Like a Woman Circle to explore the many facets of female leadership.

Our ‘lunch and learn’ style Circle meets virtually on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 12 PM.

We’ll delve into what female leadership looks like, hear from women in power about what female leaders need to thrive, and how we can be allies. We will discuss how to lead like a woman, role models to learn from, where to get started, and why female leaders are more important now than ever.

This month, our guest speaker is Councilwoman Greene from Fairfield County.

Join us to help define what it means to Lead Like a Woman!

About Councilwoman Greene

Shirley Means Greene is a true daughter of Fairfield County and County Councilwoman. Shirley earned a degree in Economics from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC and a master’s degree in elementary education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She has been a teacher, trainer, job placement counselor, cancer control director, fundraiser and advocate.

In 2004, once she retired from the American Cancer Society, where she served as National Director of Cancer Control Training and Development, she returned home to Fairfield County to volunteer her time and talents in organizations about which she is passionate: Little River Presbyterian Church and Trinity Presbytery, the Fairfield County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Fairfield County School District Education Foundation, Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, United Fairfield and Fairfield First, Blair Coalition of Churches, and alumni associations for Johnson C Smith University and McCrorey-Liston, just to name a few.

Shirley was elected to Fairfield County Council in 2020. Besting her opponent by just 6 votes, she received an addition 2 votes after recount. She attributes her successful election to fundraising, targeted newspaper ads, community flyer placement and testimonials from community leaders. She completed her second year as Vice Chair of Fairfield County Council this January.

A doting grandmother of five and mother of two, Shirley currently lives at Lake Wateree, Fairfield County, South Carolina with her husband of 54 years, James L Greene.
