Home › About the LEAD Database

The Leaders Elected in All Districts (LEAD) Database is a comprehensive listing of every elected position in South Carolina, from Governor to local Fire District Commissioner. A complete statewide listing of the thousands of opportunities to serve in elected office does not exist elsewhere – not even the South Carolina Election Commission maintains such a complete statewide listing.

This comprehensive knowledge of opportunities to serve in elected office guides SC WIL’s efforts to recruit female candidates across the state and help them prepare for their campaigns. This research also allows SC WIL to simultaneously create an important historical record of women in elected office for the last six years.

Each elected position entry in the LEAD Database includes:

  • Office type
  • Office
  • District
  • Associated counties
  • Term length
  • Filing period
  • Primary date (if applicable)
  • Election date
  • Current office holder
  • Term of current office holder
  • Date current office holder was elected
  • Gender of current office holder

Geographically specific information is available to SC WIL members through individual elected office consultations (COMING SOON Summer 2025). The full LEAD Database is available by election year through 2031 for Allied Organization Members with an annual subscription. Each year shows all offices next up for election in that year.

SC WIL members may contact Sara Ballard, sara@scwomenlead.net, to request individual geographically specific information.

Allied Organization representatives may contact Emily Bowerman, emily@scwomenlead.net, to schedule a preview demonstration of the LEAD Database to learn more in consideration of becoming an annual Allied Organization Member.

The LEAD database is based on raw historical election data from the South Carolina Election Commission dating back to 2017. The database will be completed upon release of the  Secretary of State’s biannual report on Special Purpose Districts in the summer of 2025. Special Purpose Districts provide public services and utilities such as waterworks, sewers, and fire protection in unincorporated areas, as counties are not empowered to do so under the South Carolina Constitution.
