Lighting Up Purple for Suffrage!

August 26 marks the 100th anniversary of the formal adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Purple and gold are the official colors of suffrage and we’re inviting South Carolina buildings and landmarks to be part of the national campaign Forward into Light, named in honor of the historic suffrage slogan “Forward through the Darkness, Forward into Light.” Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin has invited mayors across South Carolina to join Columbia in lighting their city halls purple and gold. The following entities committed to illluminating their buildings in purple and gold on Aug. 26.
