Historically, voter turn-out in midterm elections is low, but many municipal government offices (e.g. mayors, school boards, local city/county councils) that have a great deal of impact on our everyday lives are often decided by a very small margin in these elections. Can I text my legislator or should I email them? Does a mailed letter ever get read? What information should I include in my communication? <br /><br />Learn helpful tips on how and what to do when contacting your elected representatives about issues that matter to you and your community. We will identify your representatives, practice different approaches, and discuss follow-up actions to use throughout the current redistricting process. We’ll also be joined by S.C. State Representative Spencer Whetmore to hear first-hand how legislators connect with constituents and keep track of issues/bills in which those constituents have interest.<br /><br />We’ll focus on holding your state legislators accountable for how new district maps are drawn this fall based on 2020 Census data, but the tips and tools will apply to approaching your legislators about any issue important to you. <br /><br />This interactive workshop includes individual and group exercises and will provide template talking points and contact information for your legislators.<br /><br />Hosted by SC WIL in partnership with All in Together
