Gilda Cobb-Hunter

Currently, Gilda Cobb-Hunter represents District 95 as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. She previously represented District 66, a position she held for 28 years. She is one of the seven currently serving African American women in our legislature.

She is the first African American woman elected to the State House from Orangeburg County.

She earned her B.S. in 1973 from Florida A&M and M.A from Florida State in 1978. She has previously worked as a teacher and a caseworker for the Orangeburg Department of Social Services. She has worked as Executive Director of CASA Family Services and currently works as a Social Work Administrator. She also serves as president of the National Black Caucus of State Legislatures.
