School Boards
School boards play an important role in keeping our public schools on track, setting the vision and goals for their school district, and holding school administrations accountable for results. In South Carolina, school board members are elected in 77 of the state’s 81 school districts, while four districts have members appointed by a county board. Most school board elections are held in November.
Qualifications
Candidates for school board must be 18 years of age, a resident of the county and/or district at the time of the election, and a registered voter.
Filing
School boards may be partisan or non-partisan.
The filing dates for school board seats vary from county to county. In some districts, candidates must also file by petition. For more information, contact your county election commission.
If you decide to run, please tell us about it. We’ll help spread the word about your candidacy.
