Join SC WIL Founder Dr. Mary Baskin-Waters at her 8th Annual Lecture!

Women have been philanthropic actors throughout history, using voluntary action to advocate for equal rights, advance social welfare reforms, build women’s educational institutions, and ensure women’s economic empowerment. Through a series of historical and contemporary portraits, including Jane Addams, Madam C.J. Walker, Oseola McCarthy, and Mackenzie Scott, among others, Professor Dale will explore key figures in philanthropy’s past, present, and future. Through the stories of individual women and women’s groups, she will uncover broader themes and issues, such as activism and advocacy, occupational segregation by sex, and the potential for women’s philanthropy in the future.
