WIL Why: Meet Dr. Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley
We are proud to spotlight Dr. Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley, North Charleston City Councilwoman and a powerful voice for change. She shares how public service became her calling and how SC WIL supported her path to leadership. Hear from Stephanie:
What does this position mean to you?
Stephanie: This position is about building trust, being a true public servant, and keeping open lines of communication with the community. I’m here to listen, show up, and make decisions based on the needs of the people, not personal agendas. My goal is to serve with integrity and transparency and ensure every resident feels heard and represented.
Why did you choose to run for North Charleston City Council?
Stephanie: I put my name in the hat because the voices of North Charleston citizens were being ignored, and our trust in leadership was broken. I knew things had to change. Integrity, transparency, and accountability are not optional; they are necessary. I’m fully committed to representing the people, not the city, and making sure their concerns drive every decision I make.
What do you want other female leaders to know?
Stephanie: I want other female leaders to know that their voices matter deeply and that perseverance is key. Women leaders will face resistance, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but don’t give up. Keep showing up, keep pushing forward, and lead with purpose and strength. Real change doesn’t come easy; we won’t win every fight, but we will fight to the end.
How has SC WIL helped you in this process?
Stephanie: SC WIL helped me with a supportive network and by offering resources that empower women to step into leadership roles.
What are your goals as councilwoman for North Charleston?
Stephanie: My goals are centered on transparency, building trust, and putting the community first. I will demand accountability and work closely with the community to ensure their voices are heard. I’m committed to addressing key issues, like noise pollution, neglected lakes, flooding, safe playgrounds, and speeding, with real solutions that improve the quality of life for all residents.
