Tameika Isaac Devine

City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine made history at age 29, when she was first elected to Columbia City Council in April 2002, making her the first African-American female to serve on City Council and the first African-American to be elected At-Large.

Councilwoman Devine is the second longest serving member of the Columbia City Council, now in her 5th term and is currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem.

She has also worked on local, state and national campaigns, to include the Presidential campaign of our 43rd President, Barack Obama.

A native South Carolinian, Mrs. Devine graduate from Hampton University and received her Juris Doctorate from The University of South Carolina School of Law.

Mrs. Devine serves on numerous boards, commissions and civic organizations. She has also received numerous awards and recognitions including being named Top 20 Under 40 by The State newspaper, a Woman of Distinction by the Congaree Area Girl Scouts of America, a Woman of Excellence by the Nu Omicron Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the Living the Legacy Award by the National Council of Negro Women, the Whitney M. Young, Jr. service award by the Indian Waters Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Lincoln C. Jenkins Jr. award by the Columbia Urban League. She has also been featured in Jet Magazine, Politico, Madam Noir magazine, Imara Woman Magazine, and Columbia Business Monthly.

Mrs. Devine continues to make headlines as a true civil servant who is not afraid to stand up for what is right even if it is unpopular. She is a champion of many causes including the War on Poverty, the fight against domestic violence, the empowerment of youth and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. As an at-large representative on City Council, she represents over 130,000 residents of the City of Columbia and prides herself as being a voice for all, no matter race, gender, socio-economic status or sexual orientation.

Mrs. Devine is one half of a dynamic couple. She is married to Jamie L. Devine, Chairman of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners. Although, the Devine’s continue to be very busy in the community, their priority is being parents to their children, Tamia, Jade and Jameson. They are also the parents to a beautiful angel baby, James Henry, who was born into heaven on August 28, 2014.
